'evening SBG experts. I recently discovered that MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) can be used to join plastics.

What brushes can I use to apply it to joints and parts that I plan to join? I am assembling Kyosho Mini-Z bodies to paint and race.

I'd appreciate a specific brand and model please. Just "Tamiya paint brushes" is too broad. I'd appreciate if replies could include a model number or link please.

Thanks!

You'll want something wooden handled and with natural bristles as the MEK will dissolve most artificial bristles pretty quickly.

If you're in the US, a craft store like michaels or hobby lobby will have some. Hobby lobby in particular has a little cheap pack of brushes that work great for semi disposable applications. Otherwise hobby shops that carry static models or table top wargaming stuff will have them.
If you're wanting a larger brush for broad application a normal house painting brush from a hardware store will also work, again provided the bristles are natural.

As for specific ones or a link, I don't know. I've never bought brushes online because I'm picky about my actually nice ones.

Acetone will work for styrene and ABS, a form of styrene. Weldon makes a variety of solvent glues, for a variety of materials. Their glues for acrylics will even solvent bond PLA.

Any natural bristle paint brush with a wood handle can be used with MEK or acetone. Get a variety pack of brushes from a craft or art store - smaller parts need smaller brushes. Use the cheap brushes to determine what size brushes you like, then get some higher quality brushes in those sizes - you really do get what you pay for.
