Hi everyone,
I already have another tow truck thread here and this one is already finished but I'd like to show you my progress anyway! As with my other tow truck it is again based on a real one.
So here it is my Boom Racing BRX02 109 Series III Tow Truck (I got the chance to have my truck photographed by Marcin from Scale Garage System).
First off here are the 2 pictures on which I based myself:
Upnext I assembled the chassis, such a pleasure to assemble! Kudos to BoomRacing! Might have caught the leafspring virus from @imthatguy here!
And then the most difficult part, designing the boom. I started 3D-printing and learned myself to use Fusion 360 a bit only in January so I knew this wouldn't be easy.
Here's what I came up with after several hours of drawing. In total there are 13 parts and took more than 30 hrs of printing on my Prusa in 0.05mm Layer height.
I absolutely love the Boom Racing kit, but the only thing I didn't like was that you could see the motor behind the grille, so I designed a realistic grill that clicks onto the motor to hide it.
You can download my radiator for free on Printables.
As the towing arm was done I started on the other accessories such as the exhaust, roofrack, sunvisor, inner fenders and details such as wood finish in the bed.
With all the parts printed I started with the interior. I started covering my interiors in leather with my first hardbody kit I made, since then there is no way back for my since I won't like to make a painted interior anymore.
Since it is a work truck the interior had to be grungy so I went for gray leather seats.
With the interior done, it was time to start painting and weathering. My favorite part of any build.
Started with the bumpers, first some metal primer, silver, airbrushed some rust, chipping medium, added colors and finished it by chipping away the paint. So glad with the results.
For the body I painted it brownish red, when dried I went over it with bright red vallejo paint with my airbrush, just to sand away the bright red with some 3000 grid wet sand paper on some places. This gave the truck a nice subtile weathered look.
Finished both the broken white / beige top and red basis of the truck with several washes and finished the wood in the bed with marine varnish and weathered it afterwards.
Once done I got masks made for the lettering on the truck, which is all paint. No stickers on this truck!
I managed to finish it the night before the day I had to leave to the Sherpatag event in Kleinhau, Germany we're I was kindly invited by my friend Pat VS, MaxeeRC and rc_dc_scale_rc to show my tow truck on the Boom Racing stand.
During the day, I also had the wonderful chance to meet Marcin from Scale_Garage_System and shoot pictures with his absolutely wonderful Trans Africa 109.
And the best part of the day and this build? So many people seemed to like it that I won a price in the show and shine for the best Dienstwagen (Utility truck), honestly never thought I'd ever win a price with one of my creations.
Sorry for the long and all at one post, but even if it's built already I wanted to share it anyway.
Hope you like it!
