Finished this 3D printed Gaz66... now it's time for the owner to sand and paint it!!

Hi everybody

Here is my first ever completed rc project
3 months before this project, i received a 3D printer as a birthday gift from my brother
So when a friend told me that it would be fun if the body of his crawler was the gas66 cabin, i just can't resist to tell him "I can draw you one and print it for you, I just got a 3d printer"
A lot of time and some badluck later, he finally received a full scale looking truck at 50% 3D printed!!!

Now he need to sand and paint it... hehehe!!

On the specification side:

Stock Gen7 PRO mecanic and electronic
Custom lasercut frame rails
Rear shocks mounted horizontal between frame rail with machined aluminium cantilever outside
Modified wheel base at 330mm
Modified suspension geometry
Cab on hinges to provide easy access to battery, ESC and receiver
Full size spare wheel on easy unmount system
Bed bolted on hand made aluminium channel bracket with rubber to reduce noise from transmisson
Rubber mirrors, tail light (modified), wiper, metal gas tank bracket from Cross rc parts
TPU door handle and assistance handle 3d printed
Weight about 10 pounds and can carry 3 pounds max while passing 3.5 inch obstacles


Here are the drawings i made for the conception, some parts are missing but mostly complete

Now the printing begins
The cab was my official project and it was hard to design from photos and one blue print style drawing
There's some little differences between version and manufacturer, so the model is not accurate for one version
This printed part has 5 parts: front noze, top noze, floor-fender-fixation, lower section of the 2 doors





The door is in two parts, the main door and the window (with some support not removed)
Every parts contains tab for a strong assembly



The back is one piece with the corners



And the final assembly: a total of 11 parts with less support as possible for around 60h of printing!
That take some hours too for adjustement and gluing-soldering of the parts.



Next the spare wheel rack and the fuel tank
The rack itself is like a plastic model with 23 parts soldered together, plus a battery box and tool box

Looks pretty good even without the sanding! I guess he was happy when you casually said yeah buddy I can design and print it for you :) That must have been a great learning curve! I am clueless about 3d printing though, but find it awesome how it allows to build virtually anything.

i totally agree, i was a noob at printing, but what a pleasant way to learn
i had one catastrophic fails in that project and it was only my fault when gluing the parts, not the printer

when he see the truck, what a smile on his face and his words were "you are crazy" lol

I made a fake winch, hard to print and a lot of sanding

And an exhaust to keep that motor running!!




For the bed, i didn't have any photos of the asembly...
But some pics in action with 3 pounds of tires in it

The removable side panels
The post were supposed to be made of brass tube with welded bracket but i print a prototype and they were strong enough!





The bed had lots of stress from solvent used for gluing...

Here is the locking system for the opening cab
It was hard to design, it's made of 2 gears to pull and push the 2 rods and a sliding button to activate them
It's hide between the spare and the toolbox
