    Default Hg p407 drift'ish build.

Something I've been working on the last few months..
Pretty confident I'll finish this, so I thought I'd share.

    Cheers!

I made some mcpherson strut things from some hubs & springs. Used some hpi? A-arms and tied it all together with some leaf spring shackles and a aluminium plate.

    Thanks for the interest guys!

Very interesting. Have you had a chance to run it yet?

I absolutely love it!! I always say I love mechanically scale builds, and this one surely is! :) Front macpherson suspension is awesome, I made a macpherson suspension from scratch out of aluminum but it is way too complicated compared to yours! Also your is much more compact where the bearing attaches to the strut. Your build reminds me of Kadoteru's RWD drift chassis on youtube, but I think yours is more scale looking as far as mechanical bits goes (you can search youtube for Kadoteru 86 RWD if you have not seen it yet, if you like drift and scale at the same time, you should enjoy!)

From the picture your strut rotation is clearly done by the shock shaft itself in the shock because the top of the shock cannot really rotate much, but what did you do exactly for the top of the strut, is it mounted on a tube, or is is a ball that allows for just enough angle? I guess the strut wants to change angle a slight bit when you steer. I might steal your ideas for another macpherson based build! :) If you have more pics of your project in the less assembled state please post them! I would like to see more for sure.

I don't want to hijack your thread so I made the below pics smaller :) here are a few pics of my attempt at macpherson front suspension in case you are interested to see, I managed to make a spherical top ball but now that I see yours I don't think it was necessary for proper movement, since it only needs a small amount of angle there.

Hey Frederik, thanks alot for your reply! I have known about your Escort build for quite some time. Actually... your build and this one; https://youtu.be/9t-Hb1foPVY is what made me wanted to have my own go at a mcpherson setup. I didnt know about that Ae86 build, but I like it alot! (Also the first time I've seen watts linkage on a rc)

Like you, I am also a sucker for mechanically scale builds. Anyhow my struts arent ideal. Like you pointed out, the pivot point is within the shocks itself and not so much the joint at the top. So it has to overcome the friction that comes from the spring compression. Also even though my steering geometry does allow for quite some angle, I cant seem to get the most out of it, due to the servo placement and slop it has. So its alltogether far from perfect.

But yeah, it does kinda work.

Again thanks alot for the interest! Means alot given you amongst others have been a major inspiration for me. And no worries for 'hijacking' I love your escort build man!!
