    Default Carl's Dad's Canyon

Welcome to my backyard in the city.

I tore out all my grass and built this patio pad last weekend.

I decided I should redo the lacklustre garden by adding a few areas where I can take photos of trucks and do minor shakedown runs. Here's how the garden sat after moving a few tons of earth for the patio.

Nice Delphinium! I took a look at where it was logical to have a few hills made from concrete, and dug out a riverbed that will be filled with stones.

I used the Chicken Wire and compressed earth method for building a few hills. The first was a test to make sure I could manage it, and how much concrete mix and mortar mix I would need.

You can see in the background that I also laid some weed fabric in the riverbed because I hate weed.

I carved a few lines into the rock and smoothed it out with a broom and paintbrush. Once it cures, I'll add some oxide tints to color it more appropriate to where I live.

    Much more to come!

It's always landscaping. Just nice that you can drive a truck on it.

Darn those Hosta's. You plant one once, and plop, they're everywhere. Good to see you on here Doug. Still kicking?

Well, in true Imthatguy fashion, I forgot to take a bunch of pictures, but the back mountain is now complete, and both rock features have been tinted using Iron Oxide powders. A very cool technique that I learned from the internet and n00b. Makes cruddy concrete look like something!

The back rock face is supposed to look like natural formations around these parts, and it does!

I also added a nice stream of varying river rock along the valley. I'll be adding some natural shale to fill in some of the gaps, and to build one final feature on the right hand side where there appears to be nothing.

Planted a bunch of mini conifers and shrubbery to give it some green, and laid down a layer of black wood chips so it still looks like a garden (haha, suck on that wifey!).

The end for now. I started a log bridge in Camel Trophy fashion, but did not finish it. Needs more logs.

And proof that photos there will look awesome!

Wow! Excellent job on the concrete detailing. I am impressed.

Nice little spot for big picture taking.
