View Full Version : Celica Rally - Spare Parts

I'm calling it Spare Parts since I haven't had to spend a dime yet [[[

I started with a TC4 chassis I had lying around doing nothing. This is the first TC4 I ever bought. I got it about 80% complete and with some odd parts such as HPI shocks and whatnot. Anyway, I already had a Sidewinder 5700kv combo in it. I had two pair of Tamiya rally block tires and some cheapo rims lying around to toss on - not a very rally style rim but they'll do for now.

Checking the ground clearance with the rally tires. Comes in a hair over half an inch. Suppose I should have taken the pic with the ruler there.. Oh well, use your imagination

Made sure I have more suspension than clearance, it's about 1/8". The springs are really stiff, going to have to think about changing them out..

You may have noticed the 1/4" lexan skid plate up front. It sits about 3mm behind the edge of the body and 1-2mm above it. Can't see it with the body on but it should save it from getting crumpled. I fastened it through the foam bumper.

Finally, a shot of the body. Again, I had this lying around new in the bag. It's an HPI body but is old enough the decals aren't precut. First time I have ever used so many of the stock decals.

I still need to finish and put in the interior. It's a Tamiya left hand drive one - pretty basic fare. Then I need to install some auxillary lighting and maybe a bull bar on the front. Rally it up a bit.

It's still 4wd too. IIRC the Celica came AWD so I might leave it but would like to try it RWD too for fun.

I'm diggin' it so far. I'm starting on a tc4 for my 2nd rally car because I have so many parts for it. That's looking very 'new school' rally. One thing I've been trying to sort out with mine is how to keep pebbles out of the gears. Make sure you come out to our next rally meet.

Beefy Lexan

That's a great looking project for FREE! haha!

Ya can't beat that price can you?
The green looks great on that body. Nice idea on the protective bumper too

I can't take credit for the bumper - got the idea from the GCM DRX-VE Focus thread.

The color is FASESCENT YELLOW - #40154. I paint all my bodies this color and black, sometimes with a little red for a change. Sometimes it's a little restrictive, like now when I see most rally cars have a white base, but I gotta stick to my colors dangit!

I know it's pretty new skool for rally but it was free and I did find some rally celica images so not totally out to lunch. The body I took off this chassis was the 68 Camaro - cool body but not for rally.

I need some killer lights like this guy:

Nice! I've got some spare rally stickers (Monte Carlo...) I'd be willing to donate. Have you considered painting the wheels white?

White wheels do look nice on there. Like a flat white. Those aren't lights, they're cannons....... Wow.

Oh good call on the Monte Carlo decals - I have one of those too and didn't use any of the rally decals for it..

White wheels eh?

that gen celica was rumored to had an option somewhere in the world for the same AWD system the matrix had... but I don't think any made it to north america.. (however for WRC, etc.. it's possible there was awd available somewhere for Regs...)

I love all the toyota bretheren.. but the last gen celica made a horrible rally car... without a TON of work... their whole driveline just wasn't designed for it (rpm powerband, gearing, suspension travel range and geometry ..etc)

but RC cars don't care about it's 1:1 capabilities ... looks good, tear it up :D

Yeah, I've heard the Rav4 drivetrain is from the Celica AWD so that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :paranoid: I might still go RWD just for the fun of it. This would not be my first choice in a body either but I've had it lying around a couple of years and this was the first opportunity to use it.

Rock the 4wd! No regrets. I have been thinking that if I was going to try rwd I'd run the battery behind the rear tires for weight balance.

yeah the original rav4 driveline was derived from the last alltrac celica(and camry) .. basically the gen before the body your using

either way my above still stands... looking good(the last gen celica does look hot all rallied up) , tear stuff up :D
