Hey guys
I'm jammed up a bit and need some advice on led lights. I want all working lights on my Hilux, but am getting mixed results from my internet research on the Tamiya MFU. I hear there is a chance of interference and glitching issues depending on the Transmitter/receiver setup. I really wanted to pick one up but will be pissed if I spend $300 on it and it's junk.
Does anyone know of a LED kit that I can buy that will give me the same amount of lights (the right size). I really dont want to do any circuit board work.
Any help would be appreciated,

Might I suggest the 3racing drift light package. I bought one for my drifter and its awesome, you can hook up alot of lights and set them up how you like. A big plus is they are only like $22.00. usd. hahaha, they rule. I think you can run 8 or so lights...

I don't understand, is there a difference in led between them or something?

The mfu offers signal lights, so does that kit, reverse, plus brakes. Its realistic, I think... lol.

You set them up as rock lights. They're used in 1:1 all the time for night wheeling. I'm looking at getting some for my tuber.

These are mine...old pic when I was making my exo..you can see it in the wheel well.

And another pic from when a bunch of guys went down to moab and wheeled all day and night..thanks to rock lights :D Also keeps your headlights from shining into the person infront of you or your spotter, turn them off and use your rock lights.

thanks guys, I can't take credit for those shots though. They're from blackflag4x4.com when they had a run down to moab.

I think it'd be awesome to have a night run on a friday night when it warms up a bit. We could all pimp our rocklights :D

You can also find lights at the dollar store that have batteries in them, all you would need to do is mount them. You could always just velcro them in as I would imagine they would be light weight.

So..what's the best way to set these up and where's the best place to buy them from? All I need is a switch and run them off a few AAA's.

I'm a little weary about the dollar store stuff now. They work great, but when you figure out what your time's worth, sometimes its better to go with the brands.
This is what i used on my FJ and it turned out pretty cool and bright.

NinJato - You know me, shopping around for the best deal :)

Memory Express (Edmonton/Calgary :)) has 5ft (1.5m) of EL Wire WITH a dual output inverter for $9.99...

BTW: I love the Rock Lights. Think I'm 'borrowing' some of those 15,000mcd Bright whites from one of my other projects :drooler:

Sorry what I meant was it's better to buy a proper light kit for RC's it's harder than you'd think to just run cheap LED's with AAA batteries. This is of course you have the time to mess with the dollar store stuff? I spent a long time messing with the $1 lights, when you can order new sets cheap and just plug them in.
The lights I used in that build were from Dollarama I think?

So where do you buy said lights? Merci. No, it's not worth my time either to mess around with the dollar store lights.

Hi,

This is Eric from NeonString.com. Memory Express may have cheaper EL wire, but I gurantee the setup that NinjaTo got from NeonString.com is brighter than any of the EL wire being sold by Memory Express. :) NeonString sells only Lytec EL wire, which is the brightest in the world.

If price is the primary consideration, the Chinese wire from Memory Express may be okay. But if brightness is the main consideration, there is no EL wire brighter than Lytec 2.5mm high-bright.

Thanks for the mention NinjaTo, if you order again, let me know it's you and I'll give ya 5 bucks off. :D

Cool forums!

Thanx Eric! I actually got it from Hobby Alley (another shamless plug). A lot of people use it in Helis and love it. The driver is small enough not to effect the performance of the chopper.

Welcome to the site!
:)

Thanks! NeonString now carries a tiny little 3 volt driver that would probably be good for that. Makes me want to get an RC helo of my own.

I was at Costco the other day and saw a package of three 1 watt LED flashlights for about $20. With a little hacking, you could have one very bright lighting system on your truck. Mount them to the top of a roll bar and you would have some really intense light!
