is there a rating on electric motors for voltage. or is it the esc that you worry about? can i run 10 volts on a novac 55turn motor? can i run 12 volts on a cobalt puller. i run 16.8 volts in my e-maxx. are those motors any different? when i test them at WOT, they read 16.7 v each motor. hmmm

your esc will be a big factor on how much voltage you can run. Lathe motors will handle lots of voltage but just make sure you don't run anymore then the esc will handle.

ok so if my esc can handle 16.8v im ok to run 12 v to the motor?

im sure u can. im goin to be running 10 cells on my MM w/ the cobalt. 12v+mm+7t=WOT !!!

which motor? when I was looking into batteries lipo, lifepo4 etc I asked holmes if a 13.2v 4s a123 batt would be okay for the 7T and he said that would be pushing it.


Would I be able to run a 4S a123 battery with your 7T and Mamba Max? Its 13.2V, so I was wondering if this might be too much for your Cobalt motors? The other option would be to run a 3S a123, but that is only 9.9V which I doubt would be enough to take full advantage of your cobalts


4s a123 on the 7t would be pushing it pretty hard IMO, I would say the 10t would be better suited for that voltage.

I'd check if the motor can handle that kind of voltage

As noted, just because you can doesn't mean you should! Higher voltage means faster spin rates on the motors which means more heat production. Heat + magnets are a bad thing! You'll burn out brushes earlier and risk toasting your motor through demagnetizing it. I've never actually done this to a motor, but in theory...

Having said that, a 4S lipo is packing a whallop of power. This is crawling, not racing. A nice 2S or 3S high milliamp lipo pack or around 8 cell NiMH with an external BEC for the servo would probably be more than enough power for most crawlers.

Well I run 14v threw 2 55t motors and have never had a problem so I'd say yes.
