    Default Willy's Wild Ride

Well the crazy summer is finally coming to an end..... hobby time is a reality again.

All summer I have been collecting parts and pieces for a few builds I am hoping to do this build season. To ease in to it, i am starting off on one for pure fun. Being a real wild willy's fan, when i saw Magics chassis I knew i just had to build this one. I have been collecting parts for it for a couple months. I want to keep the spirit of the original wild willy with a bit of modern day trends thrown in. here are some pics i have been looking at for inspiration.

so with these pics in mind i am going to make a fun little rig. however i want to use as much of the original wild willy's body as possible, but still put a scale kinda build to it.

so far here is the collection of parts

ordered the chassis from shapeways. what a great piece this is.

also ordered the front grille. it sure looks more like the real thing than the tamiya one

another great item i got was knight customs glamis willy. love this figure and i was lucky enough to get #1. the very first one of 50 james had cast.

started doing some chassis work on the weekend. first was some lower links. cut some 3/16 brakeline to right length. then used some 1/8 welding rod for center. made some threads with a dye. used stock end links.

nest up was some shocks. decided to use the stock losi ones. to try to make them look a bit more at home i took all the springs off and used some small springs on the inside of the bodies. (left over from some rc4wd scale shocks)

chassis is almost ready for some paint stay tuned.

waiting for some paint to dry so i spent some time making a cage to protect willy. wanted it to be sturdy but light, so i used some 3/16 brass rod. managed to use the stock mounting locations and still try to make it look a little more modern.
