Well, got bored of my current unfinished micro-crawler build, and started a new one.

This one uses some high-tech ingredients.

I started with some (what me and me colegues call space-foam) Core-cell foam, then skinned it with 1-layer of 6oz. carbon fiber cloth. Because of the I-beam effect caused by the cored-construction, only 1-layer yields a structure that is over-kill in strength, for the size of this wee truck. And it is really light, which will help to keep weight of the whole vehicle down, low where it belongs.

Next is the center under mount, which will hold the lower susp-links, transfer case, and house the center bell-crank, for the AWS.

A quick foam shape, packing tape covered, mold release waxed, and carbon blank laid-up:

Tranny case and shock towers next. I used the gears from the stock kit, only replaced the the shaft on the gear that originally had the slipper spur on it, with a 2mm titanium shaft. All cut from scrap plate stock. Upper ball link mounts installed, and ball links put in.

Default And now for the Ti.

Thanx. The building of these things keep me from going crazy. A kind of mind rest...

I had some blue anodized 2mm titanium spokes kicking around, so I used them for all my linkage.

    Default Power

Got a 100:1 Pololu going in. This thing should crawl real slow:

The center bell-crank was tricky. Got it in though:

Waiting for the new servo & micro clevises to show up. Until then, the build is on hold.

I've recently fell in love with the Unimog. Probably get the Revel kit, and try monkeying with an exo-skeleton-type roll-cage. We'll see.

    Default All painted

Stripped down the chassis and axle bits, then gave it all a satin clear coat.

Also a close up of the axle bell-crank detail.

    Default First styrene parts

Well I made the fuel tank. It houses the Lipo. Just got to paint it now.

Started carving a wee Unimog as well. Gonna call it "Micro-Mog".
