I'm dying to rip the plastic off this body and get my axles under it. I think I have most of my parts scrounged up except for my frame rails. I want to run brass rails so I can fab up everything in brass for the cage, floors and flip front end assembly.

Just getting the brass ordered over at the Generis shop, I'm getting my drawings and measurements complete so Chris can machine the main sections of the brass rails so I can get started.
This is pretty accurate to what I'll be building out of brass, gasser frame with a few modern touches for safety's sake.

Inspired to get back at this project I carved out the basic panels from the Parma 57 body and set it up to get a few visuals...

That sir is the one!
Just put the engine under it to check for scale....I think it will work well.

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_12.jpg

Yes the engine will be blown, this old intake was just on it when it was sitting in the shop. The blower looks like an old 871 and even has the old style air cleaner on it.

It would be a crime not to take advantage of the flip front end! devil

Thanks guys I think this will be entertaining for me two, Chris and I have some plans for some neat brass items. I've been dying to mess with more of it lately and creating the cage and other working parts will be loads of fun and challenging.

Aside from making the parts the next tough one will be working slicks so the launch looks realistic.
I have an idea for creating the tires but am just running through measurements for the rubber.

I'll sneak you a few reference pics just for fun

Lots of shoe boxes this round....cause they're so damn cool.

Playing around with my tire combos and made some orders...aside from the vintage HPI 1.9s I thought I'd give some 1.6 (approx) HPI Cup Racer wheels a try ans they might be a good option. Waiting for the mat chrome versions to come in.

The Sand Scorcher tires even have the double bead that slides on and covers the vintage wheel bead.
Still would have to narrow the wheels but I kinda like em

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_13.jpg

In the rear I'm playing with 1.5 Scaler tires in a soft rubber and picking up a tire truer to peel the tread down and keep them balanced (fingers crossed)

Playing with my Sand Scorcher wheels and tires, they're the right scale and the fronts bolt onto the Semi Axle like it was meant to be!

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_14.jpg

I'm going to shave the paddles off of one of the rear tired to see how it looks. Still debating using a 1.5 crawler tire and shaving all the tread off.

Front end set up finally and it's a little narrow for what I like. I may make a brass I Beam from scratch if need be.

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_15.jpg

I'm not running the Sand Scorcher tire and wheel, they were to help get an idea of scale

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_16.jpg

Tried out the Surging 1.5 & 1.9 centerlines this week. I've been meaning to for a while so I just ordered a pair of each size and finish. They're pretty good and priced right. Need them for a few drag projects.
Yes they're only a 4 bolt pattern but that can be changed and they're the closest thing I've found yet

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_17.jpg

My rear end showed up today and sits under the body perfect, a 9mm offset wheel sits flush with rear quarters and a 6-3mm tucks inside the body depending on the tire I run and how much bulge is in the sidewall
I'm pretty sure I'll be running these 1.5 Centerlines, probably changing the offset with extra chrome beads

Just a heads up on those rod ends though, they seem to have enough play in them to let the diff wobble quite a bit. All the ones I ordered didn't work out for the rear of the dually. Too much slop.

RC Channel tells them in a few different widths, this is metal and a direct replacement for the CC01

Why not? I would look WICKED as a sand dragster!

Okay, back at it and loving the build again... been a while since I got to lock the doors, kill the phone and build. Quite a few changes to the original as the plans and specs in my head were a a touch off.
Here's the new wheels, just have to finish machining them down, glue everything together and get them detailed.

For the chassis, I went almost all bolt together parts. This will hurt less if I have some major changes to make being easily replaceable and adjustable. After I get it working how I want I can replace and tweak where necessary.

Like Rod 1 I'm using the reversed Axial SCX Chassis... man, again it works!

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_20.jpg

Up front I'm running the same mock up axle as as Rod 1, this time with full leafs. My spring perches are mixed bits from Tamiya Semi's and the Hilux.

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_22.jpg

Out back I'm running a locked Tamiya Semi Rear End and some modified Axial links.

Thanks bud, it's been fun digging through the bins to find enough scraps to get this together for the tests.
As you'll see from the pics in the next post, there's not a load of room the way I have it set up... I want this to run pretty quick and as i got into it I became more and more aware of the fact this would probably be sliding down the road upside down.

UNGLEWD

Here's how it's set up for the initial tests.
Direct Drive VXL, using a ProBoat Motor Mount and a 5mm RPM sleeve on the shaft.

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_29.jpg

Hard to see in this pic but I have the steering servo mounted upside down under the cross member using a stock AX10 servo plate.
The radio box is mounted up front, tucked in right under the hood

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_30.jpg

I have the battery plate as close to being over top of the rear end as possible to get some traction to these old tires I'm running.
The car is center balanced (without the battery in), this way I can tune it on takeoff by counter weighting it... heck, I hope anyway

http://kevinjowett.com/kjs_rcs/chev_57gasser/gas_stp_31.jpg

The ESC mounts to one side using another AX10 Servo mounts.

Now that it's bolted together you can see the discolored flip front... because this is supposed to look like a found nostalgic gasser I have some dents, and some blemishes planned... the slightly charred front end tells the tale of a small fire.

If the old tires are to hard you could soak them in some traction aid/compound to soften them up a little
